The Seven Deadly Sins tells the story of a kingdom that falls into war after the Holy Knights are all killed. The series is directed by Nakaba Suzuki, with series composition by Ei Aoki and character designs by Akira Suzuki. “The Seven Deadly Sins” is produced at the animation studio Ichiro Okouchi’s studio BONES, where the characters are designed by chief animation director Yousuke Kabashima, who also served as a character designer for “Death Note .”His wife, Naoko Kurama, contributes to the series as an animation director along with Hideyuki Morioka, that works on mechanical designs. Meliodas
With his golden beard and long hair, Meliodas is the main protagonist of “The Seven Deadly Sins .”He is the leader of the Seven Deadly Sins, a group of holy knights that serve under King in Liones. In the first season, he was appointed as the Holy Knight of Gluttony (Greed) and is also frequently referred to as “The Great Holy Knight” by his compatriots.
He is the lead of the seven deadly sins characters. Though he was initially corrupt from serving under the king, Meliodas grew to care deeply for Elizabeth after he saved her life twice. Though he vowed to protect her, Meliodas is extremely moody and short-tempered, especially towards Ban. It causes a great amount of teasing by Ban, who infamously calls him “Meliodas” when the two quarrel. He is revealed to be the oldest of the Seven Deadly Sins and was named after his father, Meliodas-same.
Diane
Diane is a beautiful fair-skinned girl (albeit with red eyes) who is the result of an attempted ritual to revive the Demon Clan. She was born with the Holy Knight power to grant her inhuman strength, speed, and endurance for a short time and was appointed the Holy Knight of rage (Wrath). She is Meliodas’ love interest, but due to his relationship with Elizabeth, she has kept her feelings for his secret. She holds her composure well but sometimes shows anger towards Meliodas and Ban. Diane’s signature attack is Transe Gauge which allows her to have power-up abilities during battle.
Ban
Ban is a young man raised in the wild without knowing his birth parents. He was later adopted by the leading Holy Knight of Greed (Gluttony) after being found in the forest. He is a skilled strategist, having mastered the art of three-legged fighting and clever enough to outwit many members of pride during battles (like when he pretended to have been killed). He is usually friendly but becomes extremely protective when Meliodas gets into arguments. He is also shown to be very sensitive towards Meliodas’ mood, as seen in “Meliodas,” where he cries after Meliodas screams at him and Diane’s wedding argument.
King
King is a giant man with a very large appetite. Because of his size, he acts as the team’s tank, taking an incredible amount of damage while protecting his allies by using his signature attack, King’s Cage, which can trap enemies within it. His history is mostly unknown aside from the fact that he was once the strongest Holy Knight and was appointed as the Holy Knight of pride (Lust) until he had a mysterious change of heart and quit.
Gowther
Gowther is a spectacled man with a silver sword. Despite having a serious face, he has a very naughty personality and takes great joy in being the source of attention and chaos. He is extremely willing to act as the group’s clown, often pranking Meliodas and Gowther, who always get back at him. In addition, he holds deep beliefs in magicians such as Merlin, who had an unknown effect on him which is revealed in “The Seven Deadly Sins” Season 2, where he quotes Merlin’s saying, “Everything is written in the stars.”
Merlin
Merlin is a talking skeleton supporting Gowther’s mischief with his magic and always making an incorrect prediction. His appearance is somewhat similar to Death in “Soul Eater .”He often makes predictions, which he comes up with by consulting the stars or talking with the dead. He, however, tells Meliodas not to rely on him for very long as he can’t see further than one year ahead and always has something else to do.
Escanor
Escanor is one of the most powerful of the seven deadly sins characters as he is a tall blonde man with a pair of demonic wings on his back. He usually wears purple and black armor but has an outfit similar to his appearance in “Saber Wars .”He is known for his insane battle skills and physical capabilities, demonstrated by his signature move Smashing Fists of Thunder. His ability is seen again in “The Seven Deadly Sins: Revival of The Commandments,” where it is revealed that he has the strongest might among the Sins.
Elizabeth
Elizabeth is the daughter of a king who was appointed as the Holy Knight of Lust (Lust) by her father after she lost her powers as a witch. Despite her past, she deeply cares for Meliodas and has no interest in fighting. Her power is revealed in “The Seven Deadly Sins” Season 2, where it is shown that she can absorb the Demon Clan’s power and use it to increase her strength. She also reveals her ability to summon an enormous sun that protects her allies and the city.
Hawk
Hawk is a handsome man with a strong sense of justice and the captain of the Holy Knights in Liones. He is deeply trusted by the king, having fought alongside him at the Holy War 500 years ago, and seems to have been with him after he retired from his position as a Holy Knight. It is revealed in “The Seven Deadly Sins” Season 2 that he was best friends with Gowther, who later became his subordinate during the Great Holy War.
Elaine
Elaine is a Holy Knight of Pride (Lust) and Elizabeth’s guard who seems to have been with the king after he retired. She was left in charge of his guard after he retired before the king appointed Eliazul as his replacement.
